THE chiefs of the CIA and MI6 have warned world order is under threat to levels “not seen since the Cold War”. The intelligence bosses, writing in the Financial Times, did not mince their words when addressing current global tensions.
They wrote: “There is no question that the international world order — the balanced system that has led to relative peace and stability and delivered rising living standards, opportunities and prosperity — is under threat in a way we haven’t seen since the Cold War.”
The pair said that successfully combating such a risk was in the DNA of British-US relations, having worked through world wars, the Cold War and global terrorism side-by-side.
The piece reads: “We have no more trusted or esteemed allies.”
But they added there was now an “unprecedented array of threats”.
America’s Bill and Britain’s Sir Richard said they stood together in resisting Russian aggression.
They said it was crucial to now “stay the course” in supporting Ukraine, vowing “Putin will not succeed”.
But beyond the battlefield they warn Russian intelligence is working overtime to “spread lies and disinformation”.
Kremlin forces are doing their best to “drive wedges between us”, they say.
Moscow isn’t the only power they’re keeping a close eye on.
The pair said: “The rise of China is the principal intelligence and geopolitical challenge of the 21st century.”
They say their spy agencies have been “reorganised” with countering Beijing becoming a “priority”.
ISIS was also branded “resurgent” with the sceptre of lunatic Jihadis slowly creeping back into Western thinking.
It follows the Solingen knife attack in Germany and superstar singer Taylor Swift cancelling a trio of shows in Vienna due to a threat.
They also call for a “de-escalation” of tension in the Middle East with Israel locked in war with Iran’s puppet powers.
Amid the rise of AI, the foreign intelligence bosses are racing to keep ahead with technology, and have been working with “the most innovative companies” in the UK, US and across the globe.
But they say the core of their work is still driven by their spies who venture deep into enemy territory to gather intelligence.
The chiefs write: “These are the brave men and women who work with our officers to stop the bombs, end the violence and inform us of our adversaries’ intent.” Xi and Vlad have a ‘no limits’ partnership[/caption] Sir Richard also wrote the joint piece[/caption] China’s rise is a significant challenge, they said[/caption]
