Plot
Soulmates Eric Draven and Shelly Webster are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Movie Review
This movie is a remake of The Crow movie that was released in 1994. This action / fantasy takes a little bit of a different turn and tries to build a deeper connection with the two main stars, Eric Draven and Shelly Webster. When compared to the 1994 movie, this movie took on less gothic elements, while adding a little bit more action scenes than before.
Bill Skarsgård who portrays the part of Eric delivers a death defying performance and brings The Crow to life. Bill, famous for roles such as Pennywise (IT, 2017; IT Chapter 2, 2019), Boy (Boy Kills World, 2023) and Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont (John Wick 4, 2023) to mention a few, delivers, whether as a hero, villain and anti-hero. Tahliah Barnett plays the part of Shelly Webster, Eric’s sweetheart. Danny Huston braces the big screen as the primary antagonist.
The first thirty minutes focuses solely on the relationship between the two main characters, and only thereafter the action follows. The movie maintains the golden thread established in previous entries such as the passage between life and death. Revenge remains the key motive for the Crow, which is another consistency when compared with the previous movies and television series.
This film had some supernatural elements in the film than its predecessor. Intensive action scenes, not for the fainthearted coupled with an amazing soundtrack with hits from Enya, Debussy and Landr to mention a few, will keep you glued to the screen even though the moments are short lived. Eric’s costume and the make-up goes really next level with an artistic intro that guides you into the movie. Most of the action only happens later on in the movie.
This movie has a run-time of 1 hour and 51 minutes with no post-credits scene.
My rating for the movie is a 2 out of 5. We didn’t need the remake and a sequel wouldn’t do this justice. The story ended in such a way to not provide any hope of a possible sequel. Skarsgård, was still amazing and brought his all to the role, but The Crow still struggles to leave the Box Office nest.
I highly encourage you to watch the previous movies and television series and to consider waiting for The Crow to release on streaming services.
