Collin Gosselin has shared more disturbing details about the alleged abuse he endured as a child at the hands of his mother, Kate Gosselin.
The 20-year-old revealed that Kate zip-tied his hands and feet and confined him to an "unfinished section of the storage basement," which he described as a "containment room."
In the past, Collin has opened up about his strained relationship with Kate, including her decision to send him to a program for children with special needs.
Collin Gosselin's latest revelation comes after he blamed his mother for his discharge from the U.S. military.
Collin Gosselin Was Allegedly Abused By His Mother Kate Gosselin
Over the last two years, Collin has shared details about his fractured relationship with his mother, Kate.
The duo came into the spotlight as stars on TLC's "Jon and Kate Plus 8," where they were joined by Jon, Kate's former husband, and seven other children born into the family.
Although Collin's previous statements were already damaging, his latest revelation in a bombshell interview has exposed that his mother's treatment of him also involved a form of child abuse.
"My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement," Collin shared, per The Sun. "She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner, and it was bolt-locked from the outside."
According to the 20-year-old, the so-called "containment room" became a place where his mother frequently left him, with only a mattress on the floor.
Even worse, during those occasions when she had taken him there, she allegedly "zip-tied" his hands and feet, "bolt-locked the door," and "turned off the lights," leaving him alone in the dark.
Collin Gosselin Previously Revealed Why His Relationship With His Mother Broke Down
After suffering this abuse for years, Collin was later sent away to a mental institution, a claim he revealed in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2022.
At the time, he shared that her decision led to a full breakdown in their already strained relationship.
"After being there, I didn't have a relationship with her," Collin told the outlet. "Even before [being] there, I don't think we had much of a relationship and I think that just kept tearing it even more down."
Beyond his mother's actions, Collins partly blamed their involvement in the reality show for their eventual estrangement.
"I want to believe it was because of TV and what being in the public eye does to a family. I think it tore us apart," he said. "It gave us less time to actually be together as a family, [and] more time to be in the public eye."
His 'Dark' Stint In A Mental Institution
In 2023, Collin shared more information about his stint in the mental institution, revealing that it affected his mental health deeply.
"Being in an institution really took a toll on me mentally," he said in an interview as part of the Vice series, "Dark Side of the 2000s."
The former reality star continued, "It was a really dark place. You know, all I had was myself. I didn't have anybody else. You know, I had no support system. I was confused. I was lost."
After his stint in the institution, Collin went on to live with his father and later joined the Marines.
Collin Gosselin Was Discharged From The Military
In his interview with ET, Collin revealed that he was no longer pursuing a career in the U.S. Marine Corps due to his history with mental health care.
"I was discharged," he explained. "I was towards the end of training, very close to graduating. The paperwork was looked into, and they found out that I was, in fact, in an institution at one point in my life."
Collin noted that the Marines didn't need any "deeper reason" to make their decision, adding, "Being in an institution, that's good enough … to discharge me. It was the fact that I was in an institution, and that's it."
Despite this setback, Collin expressed his determination to challenge the decision, stating that he has "very few other wishes in life that would top being a United States Marine."
In the meantime, he plans to attend Pennsylvania State University to study finance.
Kate Gosselin Addressed Her Relationship With Estranged Son
Meanwhile, Kate had previously spoken about her relationship with Collin, calling him a "very troubled young man" with "unpredictable and violent behavior" towards his family and others.
She wrote in a statement per People, "My son Collin, whom I love with all my heart, has received multiple psychiatric diagnoses over the years. For the safety of myself, his brothers and sisters and for his own well-being, he was placed in a facility following years of outpatient treatment which proved insufficient for his needs."
Kate went on to say that Collin had a "distorted perception of reality," which he had struggled with all his life.
She also seemingly defended her reason to seclude him in the containment room, claiming that it was under the instruction of his psychiatrist.
Kate added, "All measures that were taken in our home were at the explicit recommendation of his pediatric psychiatrist and/or his team of specialists and were put into place to safeguard every member of our family, our friends as well as our family pets."
