Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the armorer from the movie Rust, has agreed to plead guilty for bringing a live firearm into a bar in Santa Fe. As a result, she will serve 18 months of probation. This case is separate from her ongoing prison sentence and won’t add further time behind bars.
Hannah is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust. The incident occurred when a gun she had prepared for actor Alec Baldwin discharged live rounds, killing Hutchins. This event led to widespread debates in the film industry about safety standards on movie sets.
Although Gutierrez Reed could have faced additional prison time for the bar incident, she will instead serve her probation in Arizona, under supervision. The resolution of this case does not alter her existing sentence for manslaughter
Gutierrez Reed’s defense team is actively pursuing the dismissal of her manslaughter conviction. They argue that her prosecution was unfairly used as leverage to force her into pleading guilty for mishandling live ammunition on the set, a claim she denies. This echoes Alec Baldwin’s case, where charges against him were dropped after it was revealed that crucial evidence was withheld during his trial.
A separate hearing is scheduled for September 26 to consider Gutierrez Reed’s request for a new trial in the manslaughter case, potentially opening the door for further legal developments.
