Father of Suspected Teen Shooter Arrested in Georgia School Incident

Authorities in Georgia have arrested Colin Gray, the father of 14-year-old Colt Gray, who is the suspected shooter in a tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder on September 4, 2024. The incident resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including two students and two teachers, and left nine others injured.

Colin Gray, 54, faces serious charges, including four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. According to Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), these charges stem from allegations that Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son to possess a firearm.

Colt Gray has been charged with four counts of felony murder and will be tried as an adult. The shooting occurred around 10:20 a.m. when law enforcement received reports of an active shooter. Colt Gray surrendered to authorities shortly after they arrived on the scene.

The weapon used in the attack was identified as an AR-platform style rifle, although details regarding how the teenager obtained the firearm remain unclear. In a troubling background, both father and son had previously been questioned by local authorities last year due to online threats related to a potential school shooting.

At that time, there was insufficient evidence to warrant an arrest. Colin Gray claimed that while he owned hunting rifles, his son did not have unsupervised access to them, and Colt denied making any threats.

The victims of the shooting have been identified as 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, as well as teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Christina Irimie, 53.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the motive behind the shooting and whether any additional individuals were involved.
