Dead By Daylight: Chapter 33: Castlevania DLC Review

The world of Dead By Daylight has seen a plethora of iconic slasher villains and monsters added to its roster. From the likes of Michael Myers, Chucky and Freddy Krueger, to Stranger Things‘ The Demogorgon, as well as The Xenomorph from the Alien franchise. Yet one obvious killer that has been surprisingly absent from the games roster is Count Dracula. The Prince of Darkness seems to be an obvious choice for a killer in the Dead by Daylight video game what with its incomparable iconography, and of course his assortment of abilities.

Now, via the beloved Castlevania video game franchise, Count Dracula finally joins the ever growing roster of killers along with new survivor and protagonist of the Castlevania video games, Trevor Bellmont.

New Killer: The Dark Lord

Dracula needs no introduction. This iconic vampire has been a pop culture staple way before the term “pop culture” was even coined. The Prince of Darkness has appeared in numerous books, movies, TV shows and video games making him an icon in the horror genre. So, its high time he’s added to Dead By Daylight, a video game featuring some of the most quintessential killers and monsters from the horror genre.

Dracula is a moderate level killer with some awesome abilities utilizing the Prince of Darkness’ ability to transform into multiple creatures.

As mentioned, The Dark Lord has multiple forms. His human form, wolf form and bat form. His basic humaniod form allows players to raise a narrow stream of hell fire on survivors making for a great pallet counter. As a wolf, players can charge up a deadly multi directional lunge attack meaning that after a first unsuccessful lunge, The Dark Lord will lunge once more allowing players to change direction and claim they’re prey. Similarly, the wolf has a much smaller terror radius allowing players to ambush survivors. In the Dark Lords bat form, he remains invisible from survivors giving him the ability to teleport to any window with a certain vicinity. But as players can’t see you, you won’t be able to see players while in this form. Similar to The Spirits movement ability.

The Dark Lord as with all killers and survivors comes with three perks, Hex: Wretched Fate, Human Greed, and Dominance which allow him to slow the repair speed of the Obsession, reveal the auras of unopened chests and nearby survivors and temporarily block chests and totems.

The Dark Lords Memento Mori (killer execution) is one of my personal favorites. He slashes a survivors throat before grabbing a wine glass that he keeps somewhere on his person and continues to drink the survivors blood.

New Survivor: Trevor Bellmont

As with most DLC chapters in Dead By Daylight, Chapter 33 introduces players to a new survivor, Trevor Belmont. As the protagonist of the Castlevania franchise, vampire hunter, Trevor Belmont joins the world of Dead by Daylight to vanquish evil, helping players escape the Entity and its assortment of killers.

The vampire hunters perks really help survivability. While they don’t do much in the way of helping in chases, or increasing action speeds, when used right, players will have no issue escaping matches with these three perks.

His first, Exultation allows him to see the aura of the killer once a generator is repaired. His second perk, Eyes of Bellmont offers a players a chance to heal one health state by opening or rummaging through two chests. Lastly, and perhaps his most impressive perk, Moment of Glory increases an items rarity after stunning a killer with a pallet adding more charges to said item. You could come into a match with a Yellow medkit and escape with a purple one added to your inventory. That’s if you stunned the killer twice of course.

Chapter 33: Castlevania is another great DLC. The killer is unique, and incredibly fun to play, and the survivor is uniquely designed enough for players to want to keep playing as him. Especially fans of the Castlevania franchise. Plus, who doesn’t want to play as a vampire hunter.

The Dark Lord is easy enough to pick up for new players, and his abilities which will help players close distance easier are a ton of fun to use. If used correctly, his awesome abilities allow for some impressive combos surprising players and preventing players from running long chases. I mostly found myself in his wolf form, as its his most fun, affective and all-round form. Plus you get to play as dog.

The perks are fairly impressive but certainly aren’t among the best. My personal favorites are Human Greed for The Dark Lord and Moment of Glory for Trevor Belmont. Stunning the killer feels incredibly satisfying anyway, but now with the added benefit of increasing an items rarity stunning a killer feels so good.

Dracula and Trevor Belmont are now available to purchase within Chapter 33: Castlevania.
