The pair are believed to have been a couple, local reports say.
They were reportedly accompanied by relatives who were rescued from flooding caused by a sudden downpour.
The Civil Guard said: “With regards to the search operation that is being conducted in the Sa Calobra area, the body discovered corresponds with that of a woman and the person still missing is a man.”
The force added: “Work in the Torrent de Pareis itself to find the missing person has been suspended until a storm in the area abates.
“It will be re-initiated once the storm passes.”
Well-placed sources said earlier today that a body had been spotted by the Civil Guard helicopter.
It is not yet clear if it has already been recovered by officers on the ground.
The Brit was found after 10 people were trapped by flash floods in a Majorcan mountain range.
A search is continuing to find a missing British man.
Regional emergency service workers confirmed early this morning a massive search involving police and firefighters was ongoing for two tourists before it emerged a body had been found.
Police were trying to establish the hikers’ whereabouts by triangulating their mobile phones.
They were said to have been near the Torrent de Paris, a river in the Tramuntana mountain range on Majorca’s northwest coast, when they vanished.
Parts of the island have been affected by severe flooding following heavy rain on Friday, with the situation expected to worsen today as the island continues on orange alert.
Today the Civil Guard, which has mobilised mountain rescue experts, said: “The Civil Guard yesterday rescued 10 people who were trapped in the Torrent de Pareis by a torrent of water.
“Our Greim unit established an operation throughout the day there to prevent possible accidents involving hikers who were in the area given the forecast of heavy rain.
“Given the experiences of previous years, when many visitors ignore weather conditions and end up getting trapped by high water, the decision was taken to establish precautionary measures.
“Thanks to this operation, and with the help of a Civil Guard helicopter, officers were able to save the lives of 10 people who were trapped, without protective clothing, and completely soaked.”
The rescued walkers, two Spaniards and the rest French, German and British, later told cops that two members of a group of five “had been swept away by a torrent of water and they had been unable to do anything to save them and didn’t know where they were.”
“A separate search and rescue operation was mobilised until nightfall which began again today with assistance from firefighters,” the force added.
Although the missing Brits were initially described as hikers, a well-placed source said it was not clear whether they were trying to walk the famous trek though the Torrent de Pareis in the Tramuntana mountain range or were simply strolling near the river bed.
The torrent is a riverbed that can be hiked during the dry months but is often affected by flash floods as it collects a large amount of rainwater that falls on the mountain and funnels it down this narrow valley.
Hikers wishing to start the walk start at a place called Escorca, on the Ma-10 road that connects Pollensa with Soller along the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range where the trapped tourists are understood to have been rescued and the two Brits swept away by the flash floods.
It comes after a British man drowned while scuba diving off the coast of Lanzarote.
Emergency responders rushed to pull the tourist from the water at the popular Playa Chica beach but were unable to revive him.
Meanwhile, an American soldier died in a horror plunge from a hotel rooftop in Greece.
The 30-year-old was reportedly on an official visit to the town of Chania, in the popular island of Crete.
