He punched his love rival in the face before knifing him in the chest in the horror attack in the holiday resort of Santa Ponsa near Magaluf.

Neither men knew they were dating the same woman until Aly Mbengue turned up at around 4:30am and caught Ngandu and his girlfriend together.

The assault with the seven-inch weapon left Moroccan born Mbengue fighting for his life and needing emergency surgery.

Prosecutors initially wanted a nine-year sentence for Ngandu but a plea deal lowered his time behind bars.

He was formally sentenced to three years in jail after pleading guilty to attempted homicide at the Audiencia Nacional court in Palma today.

Ngandu was also ordered to pay £25,000 in damages and a five-year restraining order is in place meaning he can’t be within 500m of the victim.

The injuries caused placed the victim’s life in grave danger and he would have died if he hadn’t been admitted to a hospital intensive care unit so quickly Public prosecutors

Public prosecutors said in their pre-trial indictment: “Both men were dating the same woman but neither knew about her double life.

“During the row sparked by them discovering what was going on, the defendant attacked the other by punching him in the face.

“And with the intention of ending his life or at least assuming the possibility this could happen, stabbed him in the chest with a seven-inch knife.

“The injuries caused placed the victim’s life in grave danger and he would have died if he hadn’t been admitted to a hospital intensive care unit so quickly.”

Another lawyer for the victim said the knife attack was so intense it “penetrated his abdominal cavity” and left him with multiple scars.

They added he suffered from post-traumatic stress as well as breathing difficulties due to the stabbing.

Ngandu has spent the last 14 months in jail after the ordeal last July.

This will go towards his sentence with the Brit allowed to leave Spain after he has served two thirds of his time.

It is believed that he will be deported back to the UK in the summer of 2025.

The Brit’s lawyer, Irene Hernandez, was originally set to use a “self-defence” argument had the case gone to trial.

They reportedly would have claimed that Mbengue was the initial aggressor after he caught the pair in bed.
